MORE Justice demands tenant protections
Columbia, South Carolina: Bridge to Power partner MORE Justice held a press conference on October 2, 2025 to announce a kick off of their campaign Protect Homes for Young Hearts. MORE Justice leaders are demanding passage of House Bill 4270, legislation that would seal eviction records after six years and remove eviction filings from public view when families win their cases, reach agreements with landlords, or have their cases dismissed.
The press conference was also a kick off to a Youth Art Action where children will begin creating an art installation answering the question: “What does home mean to you?”
Families experiencing eviction face long-term consequences, including being denied safe and stable housing—even years after the fact. House Bill 4270 offers a path to housing stability, dignity, and a chance for children to grow up with the consistency they deserve.
Following the press conference MORE Justice leaders and Bridge to Power allies spanned out across the neighborhood to invite children and families to come by Reid Chapel AME to pick up a pack of art supplies to help with their creations.
This powerful expression of young voices will serve as a visual reminder of what’s at stake and why protecting homes for young hearts is a moral and urgent priority. The children’s art work will be displayed in MORE Justice member congregation as a community educational opportunity and dialogue on the importance of passing tenant protections.
