Bridge to Power

Bridge to Power is a collaboration of power building organizations committed to advancing housing justice in local communities, across states, and nationally. Our purpose is to work with our partner organizations to scale up our collective ability to organize and to strategically wield power in order to win significant systems change. We are an organizing blueprint for building sustained power to secure homes for generations to come. Our collective work will result in: 1) A pathway of trained organizers and leaders; 2) Short-term and long-term joint organizing strategies; and 3) Adequate and sustained resources to partners, including staff expertise and funding. We will achieve these goals through the following activities:

  • Convene to train and learn from one another, and to develop shared, strategic political education, narratives and analysis

  • Coach and mentor organizations on strategy development and staff development

  • Assist partner organizations in the development of robust leadership development programs that leads to a pipeline of leaders and staff.

  • Strategize and act together locally, regionally, nationally

  • Fundraise and share resources together.  

We know that the safety and security of home is essential for people‘s well-being and their ability to thrive.  We recognize that the housing systems in the United States were developed - and continue to operate - in ways that uphold white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism. That’s why advancing racial justice, gender justice and economic justice requires a deep commitment to furthering housing justice. We share the analysis that those closest to the problem are the best positioned to lead a movement capable of winning homes for all. We believe that through building trusting relationships, developing our capacity, learning from each other, strategizing together, and acting together, we can collectively change the rigged housing systems.!

For Bridge to Power, it is not only WHAT we do, but HOW we do it that is core to our partner’s growth and development of new skills. At the heart of Bridge to Power is a commitment to Participatory Everything—the belief that people most impacted by housing injustice should shape the work at every stage. We use our trainings, strategy sessions, and collective actions as hands-on learning spaces where leaders with lived experience, as well as emerging and experienced organizers, can build new skills and immediately apply them in real campaigns. To break down barriers to participation and ensure that everyone can fully contribute, Bridge to Power provides Spanish-English interpretation for the working committees, trainings and convenings; offers childcare at all in person meetings; and provides stipends for leaders with lived experience to honor their contributions and defray the cost of participation.
